IMG_0872Overview:
This slide presentation discusses three different types of digital inequality that exist in higher ed and discusses potential strategic solutions.

Work description:
Internet research, problem analysis and multimedia slide presentation creation

Learner audience:
Academic administrators and others in position to help reform curriculum and policy in higher education

Theoretical foundations:
While ubiquitous, low cost high speed internet access has resolved one digital divide, other inequalities relating to device and web 2.0 competency have emerged, particularly in residential college settings.

I believe that digital inequality is greatest in higher education for multiple interrelated reasons, including an older average instructor age, the tenure system and a lack of emphasis on teaching innovation. I believe resolving this digital inequality is integral to the reinvention of higher education that needs to occur for it to remain (rebecome?) a relevant institution and not just a luxury of the wealthy.
